Preparing for the test
1. Turn on the ignition.
2. Connect a digital voltmeter to the terminal "B" alternator and to the positive terminal of the battery.
Check condition
Start the engine, turn on the headlights, heater fan and other consumers of electrical energy and read the readings on the voltmeter.
Result of checking
1. The voltmeter should show a voltage of 0.3 V.
2. If the voltage is more than 0.3 V, then the wire is damaged or it is not securely connected to the generator and battery terminals.
To test the wire, connect the terminal "B" and the positive terminal of the battery with an additional wire with a fusible insert.
Check that the wire is securely connected to the terminals, and also make sure that the wire insulation is not melted from overheating.
3. Finally, turn off all electrical consumers and stop the engine.
