This voltage drop test on the wire allows you to determine the reliability of the connection between the generator terminal "B" and the positive (+) terminal of the battery.

Preparing for the test

1. Turn off the ignition.

Note: To avoid further problems when connecting the generator, make sure that the two clamps or their connections are not damaged during the inspection process.

2. Connect a digital voltmeter to the "B" terminal of the generator and to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.

Verification condition

Start the engine, turn on the headlights, heater fan and other electrical consumers and read the readings on the voltmeter.

Start the engine, turn on the…

Check result

1. The voltmeter should show a voltage of less than 0.3 V.

2. If the voltage is 0.3 V, it means that the wire is damaged or is not securely connected to the terminals of the generator and battery.

To test the wire, connect terminal "B" and the positive terminal of the battery with an additional wire with a fusible link.

Check the reliability of the wire connection to the terminals, and also make sure that the wire insulation has not melted due to its overheating. Fix the problem and repeat the test.

3. Finally, turn off all electrical consumers and stop the engine.
