Engine oil and engine oil filter

The engine oil and engine oil filter should be changed at intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the vehicle is operated under severe conditions, replacement should be performed more frequently.

Drive belts

Check all drive belts for cuts, cracks, excessive wear and oil contamination and replace if necessary. The tension of the drive belts should be checked periodically and adjusted if necessary.

Fuel filter element

A fuel filter clogged with dirt can cause limited vehicle speed, emission control system failure, and poor engine starting. If excessive amounts of foreign matter accumulate in the fuel tank, the fuel filter may need to be replaced more frequently. After installing a new filter, run the engine for a few minutes and check for leaks at the connections. Fuel filter installation should be performed by authorized Hyundai dealers.

Fuel lines, flexible hoses and connections

Check fuel lines, fuel hoses and connections for leaks and damage. Have any damaged or leaking hoses replaced immediately by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Caution: Diesel engine vehicles only. Do not service the fuel injection system while the engine is running or within 30 seconds of stopping the engine. The high-pressure pump, fuel rail, injectors and high-pressure pipes are sources of high pressure even after the engine is switched off. A jet of fuel from a leak can cause serious injury if it comes into contact with a person's body. People with pacemakers should not come closer than 30 cm to the ECU or electrical wiring in the engine compartment while the engine is running, since the high currents in the common rail system generate strong magnetic fields.

Ventilation hose and fuel filler cap

The condition of the fuel tank vent hose and fuel tank filler cap should be checked at intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. Make sure that the fuel tank vent hose or fuel tank filler cap is replaced properly.

Vacuum and crankcase ventilation hoses (if equipped)

Check the surface of the flexible hoses for signs of thermal and/or mechanical damage. Signs of deterioration in their quality include hard and brittle rubber coating, cracks, tears, cuts, abrasive damage and excessive swelling. Particular attention should be paid to those surfaces of the flexible hoses that are located near powerful heat sources, such as the exhaust manifold. Check the flexible hoses along their entire length to ensure that they do not come into contact with any heat source, sharp edges or moving parts, which may cause thermal damage or mechanical wear. Check all flexible hose connections (clamps, fittings, etc.) to ensure that they are securely fastened and that there are no leaks. If there is any sign of wear, aging or damage, the flexible hoses should be replaced immediately.

Air filter

When replacing, it is recommended to use a genuine air filter supplied by Hyundai.

Spark plugs (for petrol engine)

Make sure that the thermal characteristics of the installed spark plugs meet the specified requirements.

Valve clearance (for petrol engine)

Check if there is excessive valve noise and/or engine vibration and adjust if necessary. This operation should be performed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Cooling system

Check engine cooling system components such as the radiator, expansion tank, flexible hoses and connections for leaks and damage. Replace any damaged parts.

Coolant

The coolant must be replaced at intervals specified in the maintenance schedule.

Manual transmission oil (if equipped)

Check the manual transmission oil level according to the maintenance schedule.

Automatic transmission oil (if available)

The condition of the automatic transmission fluid does not need to be checked if the vehicle is operated under normal conditions. However, if the vehicle is operated under severe conditions, the transmission fluid should be changed by an authorized Hyundai dealer in accordance with the maintenance schedule provided at the beginning of this section.

Note.
  • Automatic transmission oil usually has a reddish tint.
  • As your vehicle continues to operate, the automatic transmission oil will become darker in appearance. This is normal, so don't worry and don't change the oil if it changes color.

Attention. Using a transmission fluid that does not meet the requirements may cause the gearbox to malfunction and fail. Use only the recommended brands of automatic transmission fluid.

Pipes and flexible hoses of the brake system

Visually inspect for proper installation, absence of abrasions, cracks, wear and any leaks. Replace any damaged or worn parts immediately.

Brake fluid

Check the brake fluid level in the brake system expansion tank. The level should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of the tank. Use only brake fluid that meets DOT 3 or DOT 4 standards.

Parking brake

Check the parking brake system, including the parking brake lever (or pedal) and drive cables.

Disc brakes, brake pads, calipers and discs

Check the brake pads for excessive wear, the discs for runout and wear, and the calipers for brake fluid leaks.

Suspension mounting bolts

Check the suspension mounting points for loose bolts or damage. Tighten the threaded connections to the specified tightening torque.

Steering gear housing, drive and boots/lower arm ball joint

Stop the car, turn off the engine and check for excessive play in the steering wheel. Check the steering gear for deformation and damage. Check the condition of the protective covers and ball joints for wear, cracks or damage. Replace any damaged parts.

Power steering pump, belt and hoses

Check the condition of the power steering pump and hoses for leaks and damage. Replace any damaged or leaking parts immediately. Check the power steering belt (or drive belt) for cuts, cracks, excessive wear, oiliness, and inadequate tension. Adjust or replace if necessary.

Drive shafts and covers

Check the drive shafts, boots and clamps for cracks, wear and damage. Replace any damaged parts and re-pack the components with grease if necessary.

Air conditioning refrigerant/air conditioning compressor (if equipped)

Check the air conditioner lines and connections for leaks and damage.
