Precautions to prevent vapor or gas poisoning
Prolonged operation of the engine without proper exhaust gas extraction is prohibited. The working area must be well ventilated and free from combustible materials. Special care is required when working with combustible or toxic materials such as gasoline, coolants, etc. When working with hazardous materials in a pit or other enclosed space, the work area must first be ventilated.
Some gases emitted during vehicle operation are flammable (e.g. gas released during battery charging). Do not smoke while working on the vehicle.
When releasing refrigerant from an air conditioning system, always use approved equipment - refrigerant fumes are poisonous.
Precautions to prevent the collapse of the vehicle or its components
Before jacking up the vehicle, place chocks under the wheels or otherwise block them to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Having raised the car with a jack to the desired height, it is necessary to install it on stands, placing them in places specially designed for this. Only after that you can start working. All of the above work must be done on a level surface.
When dismantling heavy units, such as the engine or gearbox, be careful not to lose balance or drop the unit. In addition, do not allow the unit to hit adjacent parts, especially the brake lines and the master brake cylinder.
Precautions to prevent burns
To prevent serious burns, avoid contact with hot metal parts, do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot.
It is forbidden to add fuel to the tank after the automatic disengagement of the dispenser nozzle. Failure to do so may result in overfilling the tank, splashing fuel and igniting it.
Sometimes a fire can be caused by an overload or short circuit in the electrical wiring circuit. Care must be taken when repairing or replacing electrical equipment.
Precautions to prevent electric shock
High-voltage wires in the ignition system of gasoline engines can cause electric shock. These wires must not be disconnected while the engine is running.
Many vehicle electrical systems are dangerous for people with pacemakers. For this category of persons, work in the engine compartment is not recommended.
Do not touch the terminals of electrical devices with microprocessors (e.g. electronic engine control unit). Static electricity can damage internal electronic components.
Precautions when working with toxic substances and materials
Battery terminals, connectors and similar items contain lead or its compounds. After working with them, be sure to wash your hands.
Prolonged and repeated contact with used engine oil can cause skin cancer. Avoid getting used oil directly on the skin. If this does happen, wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water or hand cleanser as soon as possible. To facilitate the removal of oil from the skin, use barrier creams. Apply the cream before each stage of work. If possible, remove oil from parts before working on them.
Avoid skin contact with electrolytes, brake fluids, antifreeze, fuels or greases. If any of these substances are swallowed or comes into contact with the eyes, seek medical attention as soon as possible.
Contact of refrigerant with exposed skin or eyes can cause thermal burns (frostbite).
Precautions when working with elements of the additional passive safety system (SRS)
To avoid malfunction of the SRS system, which could increase the risk of injury or death in an accident requiring the deployment of an airbag, any work on the system should be carried out only at authorized service stations. Special care must be taken when working with elements associated with an additional passive safety system (e.g. when removing the steering wheel), strictly follow the instructions given in this manual. Incorrect maintenance practices, including improper removal and installation of SRS components, can result in personal injury due to unexpected activation of the system.
Environmental protection
When servicing your vehicle, it may be necessary to use, dispose of, or recycle hazardous, flammable, or poisonous substances or materials such as gasoline, coolants, solvents, oils, oil filters, airbag modules, seat belt pretensioners, etc. Disposal, processing and transportation of any hazardous materials must be carried out in accordance with applicable laws.
