Checking the suspension and condition of the exhaust tract (Hyundai Elantra J1)

The exhaust system is rigidly connected to the exhaust manifold and, via a holder, to the gearbox. On the bottom of the car it is freely suspended on rubberized supports.





Check the retaining supports for breaks, cracks and other damage, replace if necessary.



Check the threaded fasteners on the exhaust manifold and on the bracket on the transmission for tightness, but do not yank them with force.



With the engine running, plug the exhaust pipe outlet with a rag. The engine should stall after a short time.

If you hear a hissing sound and the engine continues to run, you need to look for a leak in the area where the noise is occurring.

A dull exhaust sound and popping sounds when coasting usually indicate that the exhaust system is rusty.

The mufflers are initially damaged by rust at the seams. If they need to be left for some time, it is necessary to perform a detonation test at this location using a screwdriver.
