Seat belt pretensioners can be deployed separately from the airbags or simultaneously with them.
They lock the seat belts when the car stops suddenly or the body leans forward sharply. The difference is that in some types of frontal collisions, the pretensioners are activated and pre-tension the seat belts.

The seat belt pretensioner system consists of the following main parts, the location of which is shown in the figure:
- 1. SRS airbag warning light
- 2. Seat belt pretensioner
- 3. Electronic control unit of the SRS system
Warning: The seat belt pretensioner is most effective when:
- 1. Correct fastening of the seat belt.
- 2. Correct position of the seat belt on the body.
Notes:
- Seat belt and passenger belt pretensioners are activated in some types of frontal collisions. Pretensioners may deploy simultaneously with airbags. Moreover, they are activated even if the seat belts are not fastened at the moment of impact.
- When the pretensioners are triggered, a loud bang is heard and a fine smoke-like dust appears in the cabin, which is normal and does not pose a danger.
- Although this dust is harmless, it can cause skin irritation. Also, you should not inhale this dust for a long time. After an accident that causes the pretensioners to deploy, wash your hands and face thoroughly.
Attention:
- Since the impact sensor that triggers the airbag deployment is also linked to the seat belt pretensioners, the airbag indicator light () in the instrument cluster comes on for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position, then goes out.
- If there is a fault in the seat belt pretensioner circuit, the indicator lamp in the instrument cluster comes on even if there is no fault with the airbag system. If the SRS airbag indicator light does not come on or comes on continuously after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position, or does not go out within 6 seconds after coming on, or comes on while the vehicle is being driven, have the seat belt pretensioners or SRS airbags inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealer as soon as possible.
Warning:
- Pretensioners are single-use devices. Once they have been triggered, the seat belts must be replaced. Seat belts of any type that were fastened at the time of the accident are also subject to mandatory replacement.
- When activated, the pretensioner mechanism heats up. Do not touch them for several minutes after they have been triggered.
- Do not attempt to check or replace pretensioners yourself. Such operations should only be performed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
- Avoid impacts on the pretensioners.
- Do not attempt to perform any type of maintenance or repair on the pretensioners yourself.
- Improper handling of pretensioners or failure to follow instructions on not striking them and unauthorized actions to modify their design, replace them, maintain them and repair them may result in their malfunction or their accidental activation, which may result in serious injury.
- While driving, the driver and all passengers must wear seat belts.
