Manual gearbox — removal and installation (Hyundai Elantra J2)

Removal

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the exhaust pipe.

3. Remove the air filter and air hose.

4. Disconnect the reversing light switch connector.

5. Disconnect the clutch line and clamp.

6. Remove the clutch cylinder (see section "Clutch").

7. Remove the speedometer cable.

8. Remove the selector and shift cables.

9. Loosen the starter mounting bolts.

Remove the upper connecting bolts and the gearbox mounting bracket bolt.



10. Position the lifting device near the engine.

11. Remove the gearbox mounting bracket and insulator.

12. Raise the car on a lift.

13. Remove the front wheels.

14. Remove the bottom cover.

15. Remove the drain plug and drain the oil from the gearbox.



16. Disconnect the transverse rod, lower support and axle shaft.



17. Remove the center element.

18. Remove the gearbox support.

19. Remove the rear gearbox mounting bracket.



20. Remove the bell housing cover.

21. Remove the lower gearbox mounting bolts.

22. Remove the gearbox assembly, supporting it with a jack.

Note: When supporting the gearbox, ensure that the lifting force is distributed over a large area rather than concentrated.

Installation

1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
