Late models of the car
If the conditions described below are not met, adjust the ignition lock cable.
If the brake pedal is fully depressed and the ignition key is in the LOCK (OFF) position or removed from the lock, the gear selector lever cannot be moved from position P to any other position unless the button on the selector lever is pressed.
If the brake pedal is pressed all the way down, the ignition key is in any position except LOCK (OFF) or is removed from the lock, then the gear selector lever can be easily moved from position P to any other position if the button on the automatic transmission selector lever is pressed.
If the brake pedal is released and the gear selector lever is in any position other than P, the ignition key cannot be turned to the LOCK (OFF) position.
Adjusting the ignition lock cable
With the gear selector lever handle in place, remove the front floor console.

Move the selector lever to position P.
Turn the ignition key to the LOCK (OFF) position.
After loosening the lock nut (3) of the ignition lock cable (2), press the connection point of the cable with the lock mechanism cam (1) in the direction of the arrow until the cable stops. Tighten the lock nut.

After installing the floor console, check the operation of the locking mechanism.
