When towing long distances, it is necessary to raise the front of the vehicle. Cause: When the engine is switched off, the oil pump of the gearbox does not work, so that sufficient lubrication is not ensured at long distances and durations.
Using a towing vehicle
Attention: Vehicles with front wheel drive can only be towed on the rear wheels. Cause: With the rear wheels up, the reverse-rotating front wheels force the automatic transmission's planetary gears to reverse extremely fast, which can cause severe damage to the transmission in a short time.
Turn the ignition on so that the steering wheel does not lock up and you can turn on the hazard warning lights, direction indicators, horn and, if necessary, the windshield wiper.
Since the hydraulic boosters of the brake system and steering only work when the engine is running, then when the engine is not running, the forces applied to the brake pedal and steering wheel must be greater!
The tow rope must be flexible enough not to damage the towing and towed vehicles. Use only artificial fiber cables or cables with elastic intermediate elements.
