Hyundai's high-performance automatic transmission has four forward gears and one reverse gear. Gear shifting is carried out automatically depending on the position of the selector. The selector lever has the usual switching algorithm shown in the figure.
At night, when the parking lights and headlights are turned on, the indicators on the gearbox panel automatically light up.
Attention: While the vehicle is moving, the selector lever must not be moved to the "R" or "R".
Note:
- To move the selector, press the button while pressing the brake pedal.
- Click the button to move the selector.
- You don't need to press the button to move the selector.
The purposes of each of the selector positions are as follows:
"R" - Parking: Use this position to hold the vehicle in place while parking or starting the engine. When parking the vehicle, apply the parking brake and move the selector to the "R" (Parking).
Attention: Do not move the selector to the position "R" (Parking) until the car comes to a complete stop. Failure to follow this rule may result in damage to the automatic transmission.
"R" - Reverse: Use this position to drive in reverse. Move the selector lever to position "R" (Reverse) only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
"N" - Neutral position: In this selector position, the automatic transmission is disabled. The engine can be started in this position, but this is not recommended unless the engine has stalled while the vehicle is moving.
"D" - Movement: This mode is used for driving. one of four gears is automatically engaged. Never switch the selector to the position "2" or "L", if the vehicle speed exceeds 96 km/h.
"2" - Second gear: Use this mode when driving on slippery roads, when driving uphill, or for engine braking when going downhill. When the selector lever is in position "2", the transmission automatically shifts between first and second gears.
This means that there will be no shifting to third gear. However, third gear may be engaged when the vehicle exceeds a certain speed in order to avoid exceeding the maximum allowable engine speed. When returning to normal driving conditions, move the selector to the position "D".
"L" - Low gear: This mode is used when climbing a steep hill or when braking with the engine on a steep descent. When switching to "L" the gearbox will remain in second gear for a while until the vehicle speed decreases enough to shift into a lower gear (first) transmission. Do not exceed 50 km/h in low gear "L".
When the selector lever is in the iV\ position, the gearbox automatically shifts to first gear. However, it is possible to shift to second gear when the vehicle exceeds a certain speed, if the speed continues to increase, third gear will be engaged to avoid exceeding the maximum engine speed.
Note:
- To ensure smooth and safe operation, before moving the selector out of position "R" (Parking) or "N" (neutral position) into reverse gear, fully depress the brake pedal.
- To move the selector from position "R" ("Parking") in any other position, fully depress the brake pedal.
- Translate selector from positions "R" ("Reverse"), "N" (neutral position), "ABOUT" ("Movement"), "2", "L" into position "R" ("Parking") you can always. In this case, the car must be completely stopped so as not to damage the gearbox.
Attention:
- While the vehicle is moving, do not move the selector lever to the position "R" or "R".
- Do not depress the accelerator pedal while the transmission is in reverse or one of the forward gears with the brake pedal depressed.
- Always depress the brake pedal when shifting the selector from positions "R" or "N" into the provisions "R", "D", "2", or "L". o Do not use position "R" ("Parking") instead of a parking brake. Even when you leave the vehicle for a short time, always apply the parking brake, move the selector to the "R" ("Parking") and turn off the ignition. Never leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running.
- Check the ATF level in the automatic transmission regularly and top up if necessary.
Proper driving techniques
Don't move the selector out of position "N" or T" to any other position with the accelerator pedal depressed.
While the vehicle is moving, do not move the selector lever to the position "R".
Before moving the selector to position "R", make sure the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
Do not roll downhill in neutral. It is very dangerous. Always keep the gear engaged while the vehicle is in motion.
Do not have a driving habit that requires you to brake hard. This leads to overheating of the brakes and loss of their efficiency. On long descents, engine braking should be applied to prevent overheating of the brakes (including low gears).
When shifting into a lower gear, slow down the vehicle slightly. Otherwise, the downshift may not engage.
Always use the parking brake when parking. Don't rely on setting the selector to "R" to prevent vehicle movement.
Be especially careful when driving on slippery roads. Be especially careful when braking, accelerating and shifting gears. On slippery roads, sudden changes in vehicle speed can cause the vehicle to lose traction and control of the vehicle.
For fuel economy and a smooth driving experience, turn on "Overdrive" (overdrive). If engine braking occurs within the range "D" or a gentle climb requires repeated shifting from 3rd to 4th gear and back, it is recommended to disable the mode "Overdrive". In all other cases, the mode "Overdrive" must be enabled.
Warning:
- Loss of control of the vehicle at high speeds greatly increases the risk of the vehicle rolling over.
- Loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels go off the road and the driver tries to get the car back on the road. Instead, slow down your vehicle before re-entering the road.
- Always fasten your seat belts.
