More severe operating conditions in winter lead to greater wear of parts and other problems. To minimize winter operating problems, you should follow these tips:

Driving on snow or ice

To drive in deep snow, you may need to install winter tires or snow chains, If winter tires are required, choose standard type and size tires, Failure to do so may adversely affect the safety and handling of your vehicle, Fast driving, sudden acceleration, sudden braking, or sharp turns are very dangerous, When braking, use engine braking as much as possible. Sudden braking on snowy and icy roads may cause your vehicle to skid. Keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front and apply the brakes slowly.

It should be noted that installing anti-skid chains will provide greater cross-country ability, but will not prevent lateral skidding.

Note: The use of snow chains may be prohibited by local regulations in some areas (countries). Check and follow the laws and regulations in your area (country) before using snow chains.

Use of high quality ethylene glycol based coolant

The cooling system of your Hyundai vehicle uses a high-quality ethylene glycol-based coolant. Only this type of coolant should be added to the cooling system because it prevents corrosion in the cooling system, lubricates the coolant pump, and has a low freezing point. Top up or replace the coolant in the cooling system according to the periodic maintenance chart provided in the service book. Before the winter season, check the freezing point of the coolant to make sure it is low enough for the temperatures expected in winter in your region (country).

Checking the battery and cables

In winter, the battery system experiences additional loads. The discharge level of your battery can be checked by an authorized Hyundai dealer at a service station.

Switch to "winter" motor oil if necessary

In some areas, the use of a "winter engine oil" with a lower viscosity during the cold season is recommended. For instructions on its use, see Section 8. If you have any doubts about the use of "winter" engine oil, consult your authorized Hyundai dealer.

Check spark plugs and ignition system

Check your car's spark plugs at the intervals specified in the Service Book and replace them if necessary. Also check all wiring and ignition system components for cracks, wear or any damage.

To prevent locks from freezing

To prevent locks from freezing, call them approved de-icing fluid or glycerin. If the lock is covered with ice, lubricate it with approved de-icing fluid to remove the ice. If the lock is frozen from the inside, you can warm it up by inserting a heated key into the lock. Hold the heated key carefully so as not to burn your fingers.

Note: The normal working temperature of the immobilizer key is -40°C to +80°C. If you heat the immobilizer key above 80°C to open the frozen lock, it may damage the transmitter in the key head.

Use approved antifreeze windshield washer fluid

To prevent the water in the windshield washer system from freezing, add an approved antifreeze solution according to the directions on the container. Antifreeze windshield washer fluid is available from Hyundai dealers and most auto parts stores. Do not use engine coolant or other types of antifreeze, as this may damage your vehicle's paint.

Do not allow the parking brake to freeze

In some conditions, your parking brake may freeze when engaged. This happens when snow or ice accumulates around the rear brakes, or if the rear brakes are wet. If there is a risk that the parking brake may freeze, engage it only temporarily until you move the selector lever to the "P" position (automatic transmission) or the gearshift lever to first or reverse to lock the vehicle's wheels, then release the parking brake.

Prevent snow and ice from accumulating under the vehicle

In some conditions, snow and ice can build up under the fenders of your vehicle and interfere with the steering. When driving in severe winter conditions where this may occur, you should periodically check the underside of your vehicle to make sure that the front wheels and steering components are not obstructed.

Have emergency equipment

Depending on the severity of the road conditions in the region (country) where you use the vehicle, you should have emergency equipment. You may have snow chains, towing ropes (chains), warning lights, a shovel, jumper cables (for starting the engine), a glass scraper, gloves, a mat, covers, a blanket, etc.
