Caution: The following is the procedure for removing the cylinder head on an engine that has been removed from the vehicle.
If they have not been removed, remove the toothed wheels and the camshaft drive belt, having first aligned the timing marks on the toothed wheels (see above).
After unscrewing the mounting bolts, remove the tensioner and idler pulley.
Remove the cylinder head cover.

Loosen the bolts one by one, a quarter turn at a time, until you can loosen them by hand. Work in strict sequence to avoid damaging the head surface. Mark the position of each bolt so that you can return them to their original locations during installation.

Remove the head from the engine. If you feel resistance, do not try to pry it up using a lever inserted between the contact surfaces of the head and block.
Place the head on a wooden surface to protect the gasket contact surface.
