Set the steering wheel to the center position.
While turning the steering wheel in different directions, keep an eye on the front wheels. The permissible value of play on the steering wheel is about 30 mm.
On vehicles with power steering, check the play with the engine running. Maximum permissible play: 30 mm. With the engine off and a horizontal force of 0.5 kg applied to the outer edge of the steering wheel, the maximum permissible play is 11 mm.
If the play value is greater than the permissible value, check the steering rods and the play of the front wheels.
When sharply moving the steering rods in different directions by hand, there should be no noticeable play in the ball joints. Otherwise, replace the ball joints or tie rod ends.
