Towing Service
If emergency towing is required, an authorized Hyundai dealer or commercial towing service is recommended. Proper lifting and towing procedures must be followed to prevent vehicle damage. It is recommended to use towing carts for wheels or tow trucks.
An all-wheel drive vehicle must be towed using a tow dolly or platform body so that all wheels are off the road surface.
Attention. Do not tow a four-wheel drive vehicle if its wheels are touching the ground. This can cause serious damage to the drive axle and gearbox or all-wheel drive system.
A front-wheel drive vehicle may be towed in ways that keep its rear wheels in contact with the road (without rolling cart), and the front wheels are raised above its surface. Place tow bars under the front wheels if any loaded wheels or suspension components are damaged, or if the vehicle is being towed on the ground with the front wheels.
When using a commercial tow tractor and no tow trucks, the front of the vehicle should always be raised, not the rear.
Attention.
- Do not tow the vehicle rearward with the front wheels on the ground as this could damage the vehicle.
- Do not tow a vehicle with a flexible hitch. Use wheel lift equipment or tow trucks.
When emergency towing a vehicle without using wheel towing carts:
1. Turn the ignition key to the ACC position (Auxiliary).
2. Set the shift lever to N (neutral).
3. Release the vehicle from the parking brake.
Attention. Not putting the shift lever in the N position (neutral), can damage the gearbox.
Removable tow hook (in the presence of)
1. Open the tailgate and remove the towbar from the tool box.
2. Remove the cover from the hole by pressing the bottom of the cover on the front or rear bumper.
3. Install the towbar by screwing it in clockwise until it is fully secured.
4. After use, pull out the towbar and replace the cover.
Emergency towing
Attention. If emergency towing is required, an authorized Hyundai dealer or commercial towing service is recommended.
If the towing service cannot help in an accident, the car can be towed for a period of time using a cable or chain that is attached to the emergency tow hook at the bottom of the front (or back) car parts. Be very careful when towing a vehicle. The driver must be seated in the vehicle in order to operate and operate the pedals. This method of towing is only permissible on paved roads for short distances and at low speeds. Wheels, axles, transmission, steering and brakes must be in good condition.
Do not use the tow hooks to pull the vehicle out of mud, sand, or any other environment that it cannot get out of on its own.
Avoid situations when a heavier vehicle is towed by a lighter one.
Drivers of both vehicles need to communicate with each other frequently.
Attention.
- Attach the towline to the towbar.
- Using another part of the vehicle for towing instead of the towbar may damage the vehicle body.
- Use only cables or chains specifically designed for towing vehicles. Securely attach the cable or chain to your existing towbar.
Before emergency towing, make sure the hook is not broken or damaged.
Securely attach the rope or chain to the hook.
Don't pull the hook. Apply gradual and even pressure.
To prevent damage to the hook, do not pull it sideways or vertically. Always pull straight ahead.
Attention.
- Be very careful when towing a vehicle.
- Avoid abrupt starts and other maneuvers that place additional stress on the emergency towbar, rope or chain. The hook, towline or chain can break and cause serious injury or damage.
- If the disabled vehicle is unable to move, do not forcibly proceed with towing. Contact an authorized Hyundai dealer or a professional towing service for assistance.
- Tow the vehicle as straight as possible.
- Do not stand next to the vehicle during towing.
The length of the towing cable must not exceed 5 m. For visibility, attach a white or red cloth (about 30 cm wide) in the middle of the rope.
Drive carefully so that the towing cable does not loosen when towing.
Precautions when towing an emergency vehicle
- Turn the ignition key to the ACC position (Auxiliary), so that the steering wheel does not lock.
- Set the shift lever to N (neutral).
- Release the car from the parking brake.
- Depress the brake pedal with more force than usual due to the weakening of the brake.
- Steering will require more effort due to the disabling of the power steering system.
- If you are going down a long slope, the brakes will not work effectively due to overheating. Stop often and let the brakes cool down.
Attention.
- Automatic transmission.
- Towing a car on all four wheels is allowed only in forward motion. Make sure the ignition key is in the ACC position (Auxiliary) and the steering wheel is unlocked. The driver must be seated in the towed vehicle in order to steer and pedal.
- To avoid serious damage to the manual transmission, the speed of the vehicle when towing must not exceed 15 km/h.
- Before towing, check for automatic transmission fluid leaks under the vehicle. If there are automatic transmission fluid leaks, a platform or tow dolly must be used.
