Disassembly
Warnings:
- 1) Do not disassemble the universal joint assembly.
- 2) The driveshaft joints use a special type of lubricant. Do not mix with other lubricants.
- 3) The boot clamp must be replaced with a new one.
1. Remove the tie-downs from the boot and pull the boot off the outer ring of the double offset joint. Do not damage the duster.
2. Remove the snap ring with a flat blade screwdriver.
3. Pull the drive shaft out of the outer race of the double offset joint.
4. Remove the circlip and pull out the inner race and cage and ball assembly.
5. Clean inner ring and ball cage without disassembly.
6. Remove the clamps from the boot of the universal joint of constant angular velocity and pull off the anthers of the universal joint and double offset joint.
Warning. If the boots are to be reused, wrap adhesive tape around the splines of the input shaft to prevent the boots from being damaged.
Examination
1. Check for rust and damage to the outer and inner races, cage and balls, worn splines, and water, foreign material, and rust in the universal joint boot.
Warning. When reusing the universal joint assembly, do not remove grease from it. Check for foreign matter in the lubricant. If necessary, clean the hinge assembly and re-lubricate.
Assembly
1. Apply adhesive tape to the splines of the drive shaft on the side of the double offset joint to protect the boots from damage.
2. Lubricate the drive shaft and install the boots.
- Universal Joint Grease - Cintroplex 278M/136K
- Double Offset Joint Grease - Amblygon TA10/2A
3. Apply grease to the inner race and cage. Install an offset cage.
4. Lubricate the cage and place the balls in the cage.
5. Install the chamfered side as shown in the figure, and then install the inner ring on the drive shaft, and install the circlip.
6. Place 45±5 g of specification grease in the outer race and install the outer race on the drive shaft.
7. Put 30±10 g of grease into the double offset joint boot and install the boot.
Lubrication quantity in double offset joint (G):
- Total - 75±15
- In the hinge - 40±5
- In the anther - 30±10
8. Tighten the double offset joint clamps.
9. Add as much grease to the universal joint as was lost at the time of inspection.
10. Install the anthers, tighten the clamps.
