Toxicity Reduction Systems (Hyundai Elantra XD)

Contents: 1. Crankcase ventilation system ⇓ 2. Fuel vapor recovery system ⇓ 3. Exhaust gas neutralization system ⇓
Depending on the configuration, the vehicle is equipped with emission reduction systems designed to bring the vehicle's emissions into compliance with local environmental protection standards. These systems are as follows:
  • (1) Crankcase ventilation system
  • (2) Fuel vapor recovery system
  • (3) Engine exhaust gas neutralization system

To ensure normal operation of the emission control systems, it is recommended that you have your vehicle inspected and serviced by an authorized Hyundai dealer at the times and in the amounts specified in this Manual.

1. Crankcase ventilation system

The forced crankcase ventilation system of the engine serves to prevent air pollution from gases breaking through from the cylinders into the crankcase. The system provides the supply of outside air to the crankcase through the air filter. In the crankcase, air is mixed with breakthrough gases, then this mixture is fed through the forced crankcase ventilation valve into the engine intake tract.

2. Fuel vapor recovery system

The fuel vapor recovery system serves to prevent the release of fuel vapor into the atmosphere.

Adsorber

When the engine is not running, the fuel vapors generated in the tank are fed to the adsorber, which absorbs and holds them. After the engine is started, fuel vapors from the adsorber are fed into the engine intake tract through the adsorber purge electromagnetic valve.

Evaporative Evaporative Canister Purge Solenoid Valve

The purge solenoid valve of the adsorber is controlled by commands from the engine control unit. When the coolant temperature is low and the engine is idling, the valve is closed and fuel vapors are not supplied to the engine. After the engine warms up while the car is moving, it opens and fuel vapors enter the engine intake receiver.

3. Exhaust gas neutralization system

The exhaust gas neutralization system provides highly effective reduction of exhaust gas toxicity while maintaining high driving performance of the vehicle.
