Location of emission control system components in the engine compartment.
1 - forced crankcase ventilation valve, 2 - electromagnetic valve for purging the adsorber, 3 - preliminary catalytic converter (on the exhaust manifold).
Note: The main catalytic converter is located under the floor of the vehicle body; the fuel vapor recovery system adsorber is located near the fuel tank.
Component arrangement
1. The location of components and vacuum hoses may vary depending on engine type.
2. The location of the components of the electronic control system, the general diagram of the injection system and the exhaust gas toxicity reduction system are given in Chapter "Multi-fuel injection system (MFI)".
Note: This vehicle is not equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation system.
Precautions to take when checking
1. Check various devices only after adjusting the engine.
2. Check the condition of the hoses (make sure that there are no disconnected hoses, damaged hoses or hoses connected incorrectly).
3. Make sure that there is no blockage in the hoses, pipelines and fittings, check for cracks and damage to the hoses and pipelines.
4. When replacing hoses, always install the new hose in the same position (direction) as the original hose.
5. After completing maintenance, check the connections as described in the repair manual and in accordance with the warning on the sticker.
Catalytic converter
1. The three-way catalytic converter works in conjunction with the oxygen sensor feedback fuel-air ratio control system. The catalytic converter oxidizes carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (CH) and reduces nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx). When the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio is maintained, the three-way converter provides the highest cleaning efficiency for three groups of substances, namely: CO, HC and NOx.
2. The catalytic converter is combined with the exhaust manifold and can only be replaced as an assembly.
