The location of the components of the toxicity reduction system in the engine compartment.
1 - positive crankcase ventilation valve, 2 - canister purge solenoid valve, 3 - pre-catalytic converter (on the exhaust manifold).
Note: The main catalytic converter is located under the floor of the car body; the adsorber of the fuel vapor recovery system is located near the fuel tank.
Location of components
1. Location of components and vacuum hoses may vary depending on engine type.
2. The location of the components of the electronic control system, the general scheme of the injection system and the exhaust gas emission reduction system is given in chapter "fuel injection system (MFI)".
Note: The exhaust gas recirculation system is not installed on this vehicle.
Inspection Precautions
1. Check various devices only after adjusting the engine.
2. Check the condition of the hoses (check that there are no disconnected hoses, or damaged or connected incorrectly).
3. Check for clogging of hoses, lines and fittings, check for cracks or damage to hoses and lines.
4. When replacing hoses, always install the new hose in the same position (direction), as the original hose.
5. At the end of maintenance. check the connections as described in the repair manual and according to the warning on the sticker.
Catalytic converter
1. The three-way catalytic converter works in conjunction with the oxygen sensor feedback air fuel ratio control system. The catalytic converter oxidizes carbon monoxide (SO) and hydrocarbons (CH) and reduces nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx). When the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio is maintained, the three-way catalyst provides the highest cleaning efficiency for three groups of substances, namely: CO, HC and NOx.
2. The catalytic converter is combined with the exhaust manifold and is replaced as an assembly only.
