Silencers — removal and installation (Hyundai Elantra J2)

Removal

Warning. Before removing or checking the exhaust system, make sure it has cooled sufficiently.

1. Disconnect the main muffler from the center muffler.

2. Remove the rubber hangers and pull out the main muffler.

3. Remove the center muffler assembly with the catalytic converter (unleaded petrol engine) or with a front section of the exhaust pipe (engine running on leaded gasoline).



4. Remove the rubber suspension, then remove the center muffler.

Catalytic converter (unleaded petrol engine)

1. Disconnect the catalytic converter from the center muffler and front exhaust pipe.

2. Remove the rubber mount and catalytic converter.

Installation

1. Install the front exhaust pipe, catalytic converter, center exhaust pipe and main muffler in the specified sequence.

2. Tighten the connections of the parts well. Make sure that there is no contact between them and the body.
