Disconnect the battery.
Caution: Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is off.
Pull the trim away from the steering wheel from below and lift it up in the middle of the steering wheel.
Remove the steering wheel mounting nut and extension.
Make marks on the steering wheel and on the control shaft.
Use jerks to remove the steering wheel from the steering shaft; you can use a suitable puller for removal. To do this, screw the two puller bolts into the left and right holes on the steering wheel.
Three spoke steering wheel
Four spoke steering wheel
Installation
Set the turn signal switch to neutral.
Install the steering wheel on the splined joint of the steering shaft so that the spokes are in a horizontal position and the marks made coincide.
Tighten the steering wheel nut.
Connect the battery, check the sound signal.
Check the position of the steering wheel when the vehicle is moving straight ahead. Move the steering wheel to the appropriate position if the steering wheel spokes are not horizontal.
Check the automatic return to neutral position of the turn signal switch.
Checking the return of the steering wheel to the center position
While the car is moving, make several smooth and then sharp turns of the steering wheel to the right and left in order to check that there is no difference in the effort on the steering wheel when turning left and right.
When driving at a speed of 35 km/h, turn the steering wheel 90° and release it after 1-2 seconds. If after this the steering wheel independently turns 70° or more to the center position, then such a return of the steering wheel is considered satisfactory.
