Warning! The vehicle must be parked on a level, horizontal surface.
1. Drive until the gearbox warms up to a temperature of 80–90°C.
2. Park the car on a level horizontal surface.
3. With the engine running, move the selector lever from the "N" position to all positions and back to the "N" position.
4. Before removing the dipstick, wipe off any dirt from the area around the dipstick. Remove the dipstick and check the condition of the transmission fluid. Check the color of the automatic transmission fluid. Check the automatic transmission fluid for unusual odors. Compare the fluid to fresh fluid to determine if the color or odor has changed.
The gearbox is subject to repair if the following signs of deterioration in oil quality are present:
- The smell of "burnt" oil.
- Significant darkening of the oil color.
- Noticeable presence of large amounts of metal particles in the oil.
5. Check the fluid level, which should be between the "HOT" marks. If necessary, add the required amount of the required fluid.
Transmission fluid: GENUINE HYUNDAI ATF SP—III.
Low fluid levels can cause many problems because air gets into the fluid and the mixture of fluid and air becomes compressible, causing erratic pressure changes and failure of clutches and band brakes.
Also, the elevated fluid level causes the rotating gears of the transmission to whip up foam, which has the same results as air getting into the transmission fluid.
In any case, air bubbles lead to overheating and oxidation of the transmission fluid, which, getting into the valves, disrupts the operation of the clutch and brakes. Foaming can lead to fluid leakage, which can be mistaken for a fluid leak.
6. Carefully check the condition of the oil on the dipstick.

7. Transmission fluid and oil filters should always be replaced when performing a transmission overhaul.
