Before scrapping a vehicle equipped with airbags and scrapping airbag modules, follow the airbag deployment procedures below.
Operation inside the vehicle (when decommissioning a car)
1. Open all windows and doors of the car. Park the vehicle in an isolated area.
2. Disconnect the wires from the negative («-») and positive («+») battery terminals and remove the battery from the vehicle.
3. To remove facing of an average part of a dashboard.
4. Disconnect the airbag computer connector.
5. Connect the triggering device to the connectors of all modules.
6. Place the triggering device as far away from the vehicle as possible and deploy the airbags by pressing the button on the device.
Disposal of Deployed Airbag Modules
Deployed airbag modules are disposed of in the same way as other waste, strictly following the instructions below.
1. The airbag inflators are very hot immediately after being triggered, so wait at least 30 minutes before handling them.
2. Do not allow water to enter the deployed airbag.
3. A deployed airbag module may contain substances that cause eye and/or skin irritation. Therefore, when handling it, wear protective gloves and goggles. If, despite these precautions, these substances come into contact with the eyes or on the skin, immediately rinse the affected area with plenty of clean water. In case of irritation seek medical attention.
4. Place the deployed airbag module in a strong vinyl bag and seal the bag tightly.
