Checking the idle speed (Hyundai Sonata EF)

0
Note: Before starting the adjustment, check the spark plugs, injectors and idle speed control servo drive for proper operation. Also, make sure that the compression value in the cylinders is within the range from the nominal value to the maximum permissible value, and that the difference in compression between the cylinders does not exceed the maximum permissible value, etc.

1. Before starting the inspection procedure, prepare the vehicle according to the following points.
  • a) The engine is warmed up to a coolant temperature of 80-95°C.
  • b) Lighting, air conditioner condenser fan, air conditioner and all additional equipment are turned off.
  • c) Gearbox: selector lever in position "P" or "N" for models with automatic transmission or neutral for models with manual transmission.
  • d) The steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position.

2. Connect a test tachometer to the primary winding side of the ignition coil or connect a tester to the 16-pin diagnostic connector under the instrument panel.

3. Start the engine and let it idle.

4. Let the engine run at approximately 2000 - 3000 rpm for 5 seconds or more.

5. Let the engine idle for 2 minutes.

6. Read the idle speed value.

Nominal value of basic idle speed:
  • 2.0L Engine:
    • Models with automatic transmission - 750±100 rpm
    • Models with manual transmission - 800±100 rpm
  • Engine 2.4 l - 700±100 rpm
  • Engine 2.7 l - 700±100 rpm

Note: The idle speed is controlled automatically by the idle speed control system.

7. If the idle speed does not correspond to the nominal value, check the components of the fuel injection system (see the relevant section of the chapter "Fuel injection system (MFI)").
