The handbrake with mechanical drive acts on the brake mechanisms of the rear wheels. The parking brake drive consists of a lever, an adjusting rod, an equalizer, drive cables, brake shoe drive levers and a spreader bar with a built-in mechanism for automatic adjustment of the gap between the drum and the shoes.

Examination



1. Check the operation of the parking brake switch.

2. Check the parking brake lever ratchet for wear.

3. Check the parking brake cable for wear or damage.

Installation



1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

2. Measure the outside diameter of the brake shoes and install the brake drum.

Outer diameter of brake pads, mm:
  • without ABS: 179.5–179.0
  • with ABS: 202.2–201.7

with ABS: 202.2–201.7


3) When tightening the parking brake lever with the point of application of force at a distance of 25 mm from the end of the lever, it should move by 6-8 teeth of the sector. If the number of teeth differs from the required one, adjust the length of the cable by turning the adjusting nut on the cable compensator.
