Driving a car with automatic transmission (Hyundai Sonata EF)

0
1. To control the automatic transmission, a selector lever is installed on the central console, to the side of the driver, with which you can set the range of gears used.

2. To prevent damage to the automatic transmission when the wrong range is selected (for example, moving from "N" to "R" when moving forward), a lock is installed on the selector lever, only when pressed can "dangerous" switching be possible. The lock allows you to avoid a situation where one of the unacceptable ranges of movement can be engaged due to carelessness.

2. To prevent damage to the automatic transmission when the wrong range is…
— When switching, you need to press the lock and the brake pedal.

— There is no need to press when switching to the lock.

Position "R"

Selected when the car is parked for a long time. In this position of the selector lever, all controls in the gearbox are switched off, and its output shaft is blocked: the car cannot move. It is permissible to move the lever to this position only when it has come to a complete stop. Moving the lever to the "P" position while driving will cause the gearbox to break down.

Position "R"

Reverse gear. The selector lever can be moved to this position only when the car is stationary. Moving the lever to the "R" position while moving forward can cause failure of the gearbox and other transmission components.

Position "N"

Corresponds to neutral. All controls in the gearbox are switched off, which ensures the absence of a rigid kinematic connection between its driving and driven shafts. The output shaft locking mechanism is switched off, i.e. the car can move freely. It is not recommended to move the selector lever to the "N" position while coasting (by inertia). Never switch off the ignition when driving downhill. This practice is dangerous, since in this case you can lose control of the car.

Position "D"

The main driving mode. It provides automatic switching from first to fourth gear. It is recommended to use it in normal driving conditions.

Manual switching mode

1. There are two slots on the floor console in which the automatic transmission selector lever moves: the main slot and the slot for manual gear shifting. Regardless of whether the car is moving or stationary, switching to manual gear shifting mode is done by moving the automatic transmission selector lever from position "D" to the corresponding slot.

2. In manual mode, it is possible to quickly change gears by moving the selector lever forward (T) or backward (-). Each movement will engage a higher or lower gear accordingly. Unlike a manual transmission, manual mode allows you to change gears while pressing the accelerator pedal.

Caution: Move the selector lever smoothly between the slots in the console and between different positions without applying excessive force. Otherwise, the lever may break.

Note: When switching to manual gear shift mode, the "D" indicator on the cluster will go out and the "1" indicator will light up. Then, when shifting gears, the indicator corresponding to the engaged gear will light up.

3. In manual mode, there is no automatic upshift. The driver must manually engage the upshift according to road conditions and engine speed.

4. Quickly moving the selector lever backwards (-) twice allows you to skip one gear when shifting (for example, from 3rd gear to 1st gear). Since sharp engine braking and/or rapid acceleration can lead to loss of traction of the wheels with the road surface, downshifting should be done carefully, in accordance with the speed of the car.

5. To ensure safety and dynamic performance, the automatic transmission control system may not perform some gear shifts when the selector lever is moved (for example, engaging 4th gear when the vehicle is moving at low speed).

6. When the car speed decreases, the gear shift to lower gears occurs automatically. When the car stops, the first gear is automatically engaged.

7. To make starting easier on slippery or snowy roads, in manual mode, move the selector lever forward (+). This will engage second gear. Moving the selector lever down (-) will engage first gear.
