After installing the engine on the stand, start it and check:
- no leakage of coolant or fuel between mating parts and in pipeline connections;
- oil pressure and no oil leaks through the gaskets;
- setting the ignition timing;
- idle speed;
- tightness of connections of the fuel system in the engine compartment.
If any unusual knocking or malfunctions are detected, stop the engine, eliminate them, and then continue testing.
If oil leaks through the gasket between the oil pan and the cylinder block, tighten the mounting bolts to the recommended torque. If the leak does not stop, check the gasket and replace it if necessary.
If oil leaks through the gasket between the cylinder head cover and the cylinder head, check the gasket and rubber plugs on the end surfaces of the cylinder head. Replace the gasket and plugs if necessary.
After engine repair, it is necessary to observe a certain operating mode during the period of running-in of the working surfaces of new parts. This especially applies to those engines on which pistons, connecting rod and main bearing liners were replaced, crankshaft journals were reground, and cylinders were honed.
Therefore, during the running-in of the repaired engine on the vehicle, do not subject it to maximum loads. The engine running-in should be carried out in compliance with the speeds and loads recommended for the vehicle running-in period.
