List of malfunctions in which the malfunction indicator lamp lights up:
- defective heated oxygen sensor;
- faulty absolute pressure;
- faulty throttle position sensor;
- Faulty coolant temperature sensor;
- faulty idle speed controller;
- injectors are faulty;
- defective engine control unit.
Examination
1. Make sure that after turning on the ignition, the lamp lights up for about 5 seconds, then goes out.
2. If the lamp does not light up, then a possible cause is a broken wire, a blown fuse or the lamp itself.
Self-diagnosis
The engine control unit sends control commands to the actuators and processes the sensor signals (some commands and signals are permanent, while others are only under certain conditions). If the ECU detects an abnormality, it sets a DTC and outputs a signal to the data line connector. The result of the diagnosis is displayed by the malfunction indicator lamp or on the HI-SCAN instrument. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are stored in the ECU memory as long as the voltage from the battery is applied. However, DTCs are cleared by disconnecting the battery or disconnecting the ECU connector, or using the HI-SCAN tool.
Note. When the wiring harness is disconnected from any sensor with the ignition on, a fault code is recorded. In this case, clear the fault code by disconnecting the negative wire «–» from the battery.
