Absolute pressure sensor (Mitsubishi Matrix)

0
The absolute pressure sensor is a strain gauge that measures the pressure in the receiver. Inside the sensor is a metal diaphragm connected to a small wire. Changes in pressure cause the diaphragm to deflect, the wire to stretch, and its electrical resistance to change. The engine control unit supplies 5 V to the sensor and determines the magnitude of the voltage drop in the sensor. The sensor outputs a signal in the form of voltage, and as the pressure decreases, the voltage drop in the sensor increases. Since the absolute pressure sensor is used as an air flow sensor, its signal is one of the important types of information that the ECU uses to regulate fuel delivery and ignition timing.

Conditions for storing fault codes

The absolute pressure sensor outputs a signal voltage corresponding to the pressure in the intake manifold receiver. The ECU checks whether this voltage is within the required limits. If the sensor continuously outputs a signal with a voltage of at least 4.5 V (which corresponds to a pressure in the receiver of at least 114 kPa) or at least 1.95 V (which corresponds to a pressure in the receiver of at least 50 kPa) for 4 seconds, the ECU stores fault code P0106 in its memory and turns on the engine management system malfunction indicator lamp.
