Adjusting the axial clearance of the brake thrust disc
Pic. 3.60. Scheme for adjusting the axial clearance of the brake thrust disc
Replace pressure plate (pressure plate) 1st and reverse brakes with the special tool, and then install the lining disc (brake disk), disc without pads (brake plate) and a locking ring, as shown in Figure 3.60. Install the thrust disc and the original circlip removed earlier. By moving the special tool, measure the axial clearance and then, if the axial clearance is not within the nominal value, adjust it by replacing the original retaining ring with a new one of the appropriate thickness.
Rated value: 0.0-0.16mm (See help table 3.16).
Adjusting the axial clearance of the second gear brake
Pic. 3.61. Scheme for adjusting the axial clearance of the second gear brake
Replace pressure plate (pressure plate) brakes of the second gear with a special tool and then install the disc with pads (brake disk), disc without pads (brake plate), as shown in figure 3.61. Install return spring (return spring), second gear brake piston (second brake piston) and retaining ring.
Nominal value: 0.79 - 1.25 mm.
If the axial clearance does not correspond to the nominal value, then adjust it by selecting a new pressure plate, the thickness of which corresponds to the specified range of values.
Pic. 3.62. Axial clearance of second gear brake
New pressure plate thickness = (measured clearance «A») + (special tool thickness) – (nominal axial clearance) (pic. 3.62).
See help table 3.16.
Adjustment of the axial clearance of the brake of the first gear and reverse gear
Pic. 3.63. Measuring the end play of the first gear brake
Turn the transmission upside down and install the dial gauge (pic. 3.63).
By moving the special device up and down, measure the axial clearance.
Nominal value: 1.35 - 1.81 mm.
If the axial clearance does not correspond to the nominal value, then adjust it by selecting a new pressure plate, the thickness of which corresponds to the specified range of values.
Pic. 3.64. Axial clearance of the first gear brake
New pressure plate thickness = (measured clearance «A») + (special tool thickness) – (nominal axial clearance) (pic. 3.64).
See help table 3.15.

Adjusting the axial clearance of the sun gear of the reducing planetary gear set
Pic. 3.66. Measuring the axial clearance of the sun gear of the reduction planetary gear set
Install the original No. 8 thrust bearing race removed earlier, then install the rear transaxle case cover. Measure the axial clearance of the sun gear of the reduction planetary gear set (pic. 3.66).
If the axial clearance is not within specification, adjust by selecting a new #8 thrust bearing race of the appropriate thickness from the table shown.
Nominal value: 0.25 - 0.45 mm.
Note. To make it easier to measure the axial clearance of the sun gear of the reduction planetary gear set, install the hub of the underdrive clutch.
Differential housing preload adjustment
Put a piece of soft solder (approximately 10 mm long and approximately 3 mm in diameter) to the torque converter housing.
Pic. 3.67. Solder extraction
Install the torque converter housing to the transmission housing without sealant. Tighten the fastening bolts to the nominal torque. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the solder (pic. 3.67).
Pic. 3.68. Measuring the Thickness of a Deformed Piece of Solder
Using a micrometer, measure the thickness «T» deformed piece of solder. To achieve nominal preload, select a spacer that is within the specified range of thickness (pic. 3.68).
Nominal value: 0.045 - 0.105 mm.
Spacer thickness = (solder thickness «T») + (nominal preload value)
