Warning: To avoid serious injury when working on batteries, carefully observe the following precautions:
Battery electrolyte is a highly concentrated solution of sulfuric acid, which is extremely harmful and corrosive. Be careful not to get it in your eyes, skin, clothing or painted surfaces of your car. If you spill electrolyte on yourself, do the following immediately:
- If you spill electrolyte on your skin, flush the affected area for at least 15 minutes with clean water and then seek medical attention.
- If electrolyte gets into your eyes, rinse them with water and seek medical attention immediately. During transport to the doctor, continue to rinse the eyes with a sponge soaked in water.
- If you have swallowed electrolyte, drink plenty of water or milk and drink magnesia, eat a raw egg, or drink vegetable oil. Seek medical attention immediately.
Explosive gas is released when the battery is being charged from the charger or the car's alternator. Observe the following precautions to prevent possible injury:
- Charge the battery only in a well ventilated area.
- Do not allow open flames or smoking in this area.
- Charge in a place inaccessible to children.
Battery check
Keep the battery pack clean. Any signs of corrosion near the battery terminals must be removed using a solution of household soda and warm water. After the battery terminals are dry, coat them with a light coat of grease.
