Checking the pressure switch sensor for the fluid in the hydraulic system of the power steering (Hyundai Sonata EF)

The power steering fluid pressure switch is sensitive to the presence of steering load and converts this data into a signal voltage.

Based on this signal, the ECU adjusts the position of the idle speed control servo to maintain the idle speed at a certain level when the load from the power steering pump acts on the engine.

Checking with a tester

1. Conditions for conducting the inspection.

Perform the test with the engine idling.

2. Performing the check.

• a) Check that the sensor is in the OFF state when the steering wheel is in the neutral position (straight ahead position).
• b) Check that the sensor is in the ON state when the steering wheel is turned half a turn.
