Changing oil in manual transmission (Hyundai Sonata EF)

1. Drive the vehicle until the transmission fluid reaches operating temperature.

2. Place the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface.

3. Unscrew the filler plug and the corresponding drain plug on the gearbox housing and drain the oil.

Caution: Be careful not to burn yourself with hot oil.


4. Replace the drain plug O-ring with a new one, then tighten the plug to the specified torque.
  • Tightening torque: 30-35 Nm

5. To fill the gearbox with oil, unscrew the corresponding filler plug.

6. Fill with new oil to the required level.

The oil level in the crankcase should be at the level of the lower edge of the filler hole (filler plug hole).

Note: Pour in the oil slowly, in small portions, with breaks of several minutes.

  • Recommended transmission oil: Hypoid gear oil Hyundai Genuine Parts MTF or equivalent
  • Oil viscosity according to SAE: 75W-90
  • Oil quality according to API: GL-4
  • Filling capacity: 2.1 l

7. Install the filler plug and tighten it to the specified torque.
  • Tightening torque: 30-35 Nm

8. Drive the vehicle until the transmission oil reaches operating temperature, then check for oil leaks.
