Disassembling the drive shaft (models with manual transmission).
1 - outer race of the inner joint, 2, 3 - retaining ring, 4 - inner race of the inner joint, 5 - separator, 6 - ball, 7 - inner joint boot, 8 - dust boot, 9 - outer joint assembly, 10 - outer joint boot, 11 - outer joint boot outer clamp, 12 - inner joint boot inner clamp, 13 - outer joint boot outer clamp, 14 - inner joint boot inner clamp.
Note: * - models with 2.7 l engine.
1. Remove the boot clamps and slide the inner hinge boot.
Caution: Be careful not to damage the case when removing.

2. Using a slotted screwdriver, remove the retaining ring from the outer race of the joint.

3. Remove the outer race of the inner joint.
4. Remove the retaining ring and take out the inner race of the inner joint together with the separator and balls.

5. Clean the inner race of the joint assembly with the separator and balls without disassembling the unit.
Note: Be careful not to let the balls fall out. If the balls do fall out, put them back into the holder.
6. Remove the boot clamps and slide the outer joint boot off. Remove the outer and inner joint protective boots from the shaft.
Caution: If the joint boot is to be reinstalled, wrap the splined portion of the shaft with insulating tape to prevent damage to the boot.
