Gearbox assembly — removal and installation (Hyundai Sonata EF)

Removal

1. Unscrew the drain plug and drain the automatic transmission fluid.

• Tightening torque: 29-34 Nm

2. Remove the air filter housing assembly.

3. Remove the automatic transmission control cable.

4. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor connector.



5. Disconnect the connectors of the start inhibit switch, electromagnetic valves and automatic transmission fluid temperature sensor.



6. Disconnect the automatic transmission fluid cooler hoses.





7. Using a special tool, lift the engine.



8. Remove the anti-roll bar and ball joints of the lower arms of the front suspension (see the chapter "Suspension").

9. Remove the drive shafts (see chapter "Drive shafts").

10. Remove the tie rod ends, the intermediate shaft of the steering gear and disconnect the power steering pipes (see chapter "Steering").

11. Loosen the subframe mounting bolts and remove the subframe.



12. Remove the starter.



13. Loosen the gearbox mounting bolts.

14. Remove the gearbox assembly using a jack.

Installation

The gearbox is installed in the reverse order of removal.
