Examination
Fig. 3.31. Measuring the gap between the third gear intermediate gear and the fourth gear intermediate gear
Measure the clearance between the third gear intermediate gear and the fourth gear intermediate gear (Fig. 3.31).
If the clearance is greater than the maximum allowable, check the contact surfaces of the third gear intermediate gear, fourth gear intermediate gear and synchronizer clutch (3rd gear – 4th gear). Replace damaged parts.
Fig. 3.32. Measuring the gap between the fourth gear intermediate gear and the fifth gear intermediate gear
Measure the clearance between the fourth gear intermediate gear and the fifth gear intermediate gear (Fig. 3.32).
If the clearance is greater than the maximum allowable, check the contact surfaces of the fourth gear intermediate gear, fifth gear intermediate gear, synchronizer sleeve (3rd gear – 4th gear) and synchronizer sleeve (5th gear). Replace damaged parts.
Disassembly
Remove the 5th synchronizer sleeve assembly, 5th synchronizer ring and 5th idler gear using SST.
Fig. 3.33. Disassembling components of 3rd and 4th gears
Remove the synchronizer sleeve (3rd gear – 4th gear) assembly, the 3rd gear synchronizer ring and the 3rd gear intermediate gear using SST (Fig. 3.33).
Assembly
Fig. 3.34. Installing a new bearing
Install the new bearing using SST (Fig. 3.34).
Fig. 3.35. Installing 5th gear components
Install the fifth gear synchronizer ring, fifth gear idler gear and new bearing using SST (Fig. 3.35).
