The adjustment of the cable of such a drive can be checked as follows.
1. Apply the brakes and parking brake.
2. Place the gear shift lever in the "R" position.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "ST" (start) position.
4. Slowly move the gearshift lever up until it clicks into the "P" (park) slot. If the starter operates when this lever clicks into place, the "P" position is correct.

5. Then, in the same order, slowly move the gearshift lever to the "N" (neutral) position.
If the starter operates when the lever is in this position, then this position is correct.
6. Make sure that the vehicle does not move and that the lever does not stop between the PRND positions.
7. The manual control cable is adjusted properly if, as described above, the starter operates in both the "P" and "N" positions.
