Replacing the working brake cylinder (Mitsubishi Matrix)

Remove the brake pads.

Disconnect the brake pipe from the cylinder.

Loosen the two mounting bolts and remove the wheel brake cylinder (Fig. 6.51).

Remove the cylinder seals.

Remove the piston caps and piston.

Remove the return spring (Fig. 6.52).

Before assembling the wheel brake cylinder, check the parts listed below (Fig. 6.53).

Cylinder and piston – for wear and rust.

Cylinder body – for cracks and other damage.

Condition of the contact surface of the piston and brake pads.

Condition of the return spring.

Assembly and installation of the brake wheel cylinder are carried out in the reverse order.

Note: Wash parts with isopropyl alcohol before assembly.


Note: Lubricate parts with clean brake fluid before installation.


Note: Do not reinstall piston caps and seals.


Caution: Be careful not to lose the steel ball of the drain nipple.
