Checking the tension of the power steering pump drive belt (Mitsubishi Matrix)

Press the power steering pump drive V-belt with a force of 98 N at the point shown in Figure 5.7 and check that the belt deflection corresponds to the nominal value.

Belt deflection (nominal value): 6–9 mm.

If the belt deflection does not correspond to the nominal value, adjust the tension by loosening the belt tension adjustment bolt on the power steering pump (Fig. 5.8).

Place the lever opposite the power steering pump and, by moving the pump, adjust the belt deflection so that it corresponds to the nominal value.

Tighten the belt tension adjustment bolt on the power steering pump.

Check the belt deflection and repeat the adjustment procedure if necessary.

Caution! The belt deflection should be checked after turning the power steering pump pulley one or more revolutions in the normal direction of rotation.
