Removal
Fig. 8.77. Removing the shaft seal retaining ring
To replace the compressor shaft seal, remove the compressor from the vehicle and drain the refrigerant.
Remove the clutch hub from the compressor.
Use a pointed object to remove the felt seal from the compressor nose.
Carefully remove foreign particles from the compressor nose cavity by blowing it with low-pressure compressed air. Then, using a lint-free cloth, thoroughly clean the inner and outer surfaces of the compressor nose from oil and dirt.
Using a puller, remove the shaft seal retaining ring from the compressor nose.
1. Insert the end of the puller into one of the holes of the retaining ring (View A).
2. Turn the puller so that its end and the hole in the retaining ring are positioned as close as possible to the compressor shaft (View B).
3. Remove the retaining ring by quickly pulling the puller upwards, holding its rod against the wall of the nose bore (View C).
Fig. 8.78. Installing a special device
Install the shaft seal removal tool (09977-33700) onto the compressor shaft and slide it inside the compressor nose until it touches the shaft seal (Fig. 8.78).
Insert the head of the tool into the inside diameter of the shaft seal. Holding the hexagon of the tool, expand the head of the tool inside the seal by turning the handle of the tool clockwise, then remove the seal by pulling the tool.
Installation
Check the protective ring for burrs and other defects of the new seal. Do not install a damaged protective ring.
Using a clean, lint-free cloth, wipe the shaft surface and the seal seat in the compressor nose.
Immerse the protective ring and seal in clean compressor oil and install the seal on the protective ring with the working edge towards the large diameter of the protective ring.

Install the protective ring with seal on the end of the compressor shaft (Fig. 8.79).
Rice. 8.80. Installation of the mandrel
Install the seal pressing mandrel onto the end of the protective ring, then slowly slide the seal in the protective ring until it fits into the socket (Fig. 8.80).
Remove the seal press mandrel and protective ring from the compressor.
Install the new oil seal retaining ring into the compressor nose bore and use a puller to guide it into the groove.
Check the tightness of the seal installation by turning the shaft 10 turns by the coupling hub.
Install a new felt seal into the compressor nose.
Install the clutch hub onto the compressor as directed earlier in this section.
