Main faults and their causes (Mitsubishi Matrix)

When checking your engine for faults, it is important to start with the main systems. If you have any of the following faults: (A) the engine does not start, (B) the engine idles poorly, or (C) the engine does not have sufficient throttle response, first check:

1. Serviceability of power supply circuits

• Battery
• Fusible links
• Fuses

2. Connections to ground

3. Fuel supply

• Fuel lines
• Fuel filter
• Fuel pump

4. Ignition system

• Spark plugs
• High voltage wires
• Ignition coil

5. Exhaust gas toxicity reduction system

• Forced crankcase ventilation system
• Vacuum leak

6. Other

• Ignition timing angle
• Idling
