Removal
1. Remove the center console assembly (see chapter "Body").
2. Remove the cotter pins and transmission control cable clamps from the gear shift lever side.
3. Remove the gear shift lever assembly.
4. Loosen the bolts and remove the intermediate transmission control cable bracket.

5. Remove the cotter pins and gearbox control cable clamps from the manual transmission side.
6. Remove the gear selector cable and gear shift cable.
Examination
1. Check the functionality of the gear selection cable and its absence of damage.
2. Check the functionality of the gear shift cable and its absence of damage.
3. Check the gearbox control cable boots for damage.
4. Check each bushing for wear, abrasion, sticking, restricted movement or damage.
5. Check the spring for wear and damage.
Installation
1. The gear selection and shift mechanism is installed in the reverse order of removal; the tightening torques for the bolts and nuts are indicated in the text describing the removal procedure and in the assembly drawing "Gear selection and shift mechanism".
2. When installing, apply consistent grease to the contact surfaces of the bushings.
