Disassembly
Pic. 3.142. Removing the clamps for fastening the protective cover of the inner CV joint
Remove the clamps securing the protective cover of the inner CV joint and remove the protective cover from the body of the inner CV joint (pic. 3.142).
Note. Do not disassemble the outer CV joint «Tripod TJ».
Note. A special grease is used to lubricate the CV joints of the wheel drive shaft. Do not mix old and new grease or different types of grease.
Note. After removal, replace the clamps of the CV joint protective covers with new ones.
Attention! Be careful not to damage the protective cover when removing.
Pic. 3.143. Removing the retaining ring from the wheel drive shaft
Remove the retaining ring from the wheel drive shaft, then remove the SHRUS tripod assembly (pic. 3.143).
Clean the CV joint tripod assembly.
Pic. 3.144. Installing adhesive tape
Remove the clamps of the protective cover of the outer CV joint and remove the protective cover from the body of the outer CV joint.
Attention! If it is intended to reinstall the CV joint protective cover, then wrap (plastic) masking tape on the spline of the shaft to prevent damage to the boot (pic. 3.144).
Examination
Check the wheel drive shaft spline for excessive wear or damage.
Make sure that there is no water, foreign particles, dirt or rust in the protective boot of the outer CV joint.
Make sure that the rollers on the axles of the tripod assembly rotate normally and there are no signs of excessive wear or corrosion.
Check the groove on the inner surface of the CV joint housing for signs of wear or corrosion.
Check the dynamic damper for damage or cracks.
Assembly
Wrap (plastic) with an insulating tape splined part of the wheel drive shaft from the side of the inner CV joint to prevent damage to the protective cover.
Apply grease to the wheel drive shaft and install the protective covers of the CV joints.
Recommended lubricant
External CV joint (BJ): CENTOPLEX 278M/ 136K.
Internal CV joint (TJ): KLKTJ 41–182 (MS511–50, KOREA KLUBER).
Pic. 3.145. Installing a dynamic damper
To install a dynamic damper, holding the outer CV joint and the wheel drive shaft so that they are in a straight line, secure the dynamic damper with a clamp in the places indicated in Figure 3.145.
Fill the protective boot of the inner CV joint with special grease and install it in place.
Secure the protective cover of the inner CV joint with clamps.
Add special grease to the outer CV joint housing in an amount that matches the amount of grease removed during the test.
Install the protective cover of the outer CV joint.
Secure the protective cover of the outer CV joint with clamps.
Pic. 3.146. Installation of collars of protective covers
Install the clamps of the protective covers of the outer CV joints at an appropriate distance from each other (to provide the necessary amount of air inside the case), and then securely tighten the clamps (pic. 3.146).
