Measure the specific gravity of the coolant using a hydrometer (Fig. 2.7).
Measure the coolant temperature and determine the concentration of antifreeze taking into account the relationship between specific gravity and temperature based on the data in the table provided.
Example: The safe operating temperature is –15°C when the measured specific gravity is 1.058 g/cm³ at a coolant temperature of 20°C.
Recommended coolant
If the concentration of antifreeze is below 30%, the anti-corrosion properties of the coolant are significantly reduced.
If the concentration is more than 60%, the crystallization temperature of the antifreeze increases (the heat exchange efficiency decreases), which has an adverse effect on the engine. Therefore, make sure that the antifreeze concentration level is within the specified range.
Do not mix antifreezes of different brands.
