Checking the operation of the gear shift lever (Hyundai Sonata Y3)

1. Move the gearshift lever to each position and make sure that the lever moves smoothly. Make sure that the lever positions are correctly locked.

2. Make sure that the gear shift lever can be moved to any position (by operating the button as shown in the figure).

3. Start the engine and check that the vehicle moves forward when the gearshift lever is moved from N to D and moves backward when it is moved to R.

4. If the gear shift lever does not operate properly, adjust the control cable and bushing. Check the sliding parts for wear.
